The Coyotes are working on a trade for a center.
Phoenix general manager Don Maloney says he wants to "help that position" before camp starts.
In fact, Maloney says he's working on a trade for a "pretty good player" who would "fit in well" with the club.
Trade Rumor - Hockey Wiretap
Gomez, Kostitsyn Staying Put For Now
There have been trade talks involving both Scott Gomez and Sergei Kostitsyn this offseason, but the pair appear to be staying put for now.
Regarding Nashville's Kostitsyn, The Hockey Buzz writes, "He has two options, as far as I'm concerned. Play his way up the lineup and buy his ticket out of town through free agency, or play his way off the Canadiens -- which won't make much of an attractive commodity to other teams."
For Gomez, The Buzz thinks any potential trade would have to bring back a player to replace him.
"Instead, the Canadiens have held onto him, in the hopes that he can rededicate himself to being close enough to the player he should be."
Coyotes Looking For Center Via Trade
The Coyotes are looking for a center via trade, but they haven't had too much success.
"Every time you see people, you ask them 'What do you have going?' It's a quiet period, a lot of people have gone on vacation for a few weeks. We're all kind of taking a deep breath," Phoenix general manager Don Maloney said.
Phoenix's ownership woes may prevent them from adding a big contract, which will certainly hurt their chances of landing a center.
Sabres Seeking Deal To Get Under Cap
The Sabres need to get under the salary cap before the season starts and chances are they'll do so via trade.
Buffalo general manager Darcy Regier hopes to get things done soon.
"It's still pretty quiet. I was just talking to fellow GMs downstairs," Regier said at the recent Research and Development Camp.
They need to dump about $3.5 million in salary.
